What is gardeners’ insurance

Gardeners’ insurance can offer different types of policy cover that best suit your business needs. These options include public liability, professional indemnity, employers’ liability and contractors all risk insurance.

You’ll often be working long hours, with your work changing season to season, from strenuous labour to using expensive equipment and sharp tools.  The job can be extremely risky and very costly if you don’t have the right kind of insurance. You’ll want cover that suits the kind of work you do, in case something does go wrong causing your business a potential financial loss.

We’re here to help you choose the type of insurance you want for your business needs. We can help cover different types of trades from tree surgeons to landscape gardeners.

What does gardeners’ insurance include?

As a business owner, it is your duty to make sure that in the course of carrying out your work your actions are not responsible for causing an injury or property damage to a third party. If you are held liable for the injury or damage you can be sued for compensation, this is why public liability insurance typically provides at least £1 million of cover, but can be increased to £10 million if your business requires this.

Professional indemnity insurance helps cover you if your customer brings a claim against your business due to a service you provided or recommendation you made that caused them a financial loss. Employers' liability insurance is a legal requirement if you have any employees, and covers you for any injury or illness your employees suffer from their work with you.

Contractors all risk insurance is a policy that provides comprehensive cover for the contract works, tools, plant and equipment, temporary buildings and architect drawings.

Our aim is to provide you with all of the options to help you get the cover you need for your business.

Do I need gardeners’ insurance?

Gardeners’ insurance can cover many different types of insurance all of which can help protect you and your business, these range from employers and public liability to professional indemnity cover.

Employers’ liability insurance is a legal requirement for everyone, not just gardeners. If you have any employees, you need it as without this policy you can face strict fines.

Public liability insurance isn’t a legal requirement but it is designed to cover your business if a claim is made against you for injury to people, or damage to third party property. Public liability insurance can step in by covering the costs (up to £10 million) for legal fees and any financial awards made to the claimant.

As you might be working with expensive tools, contractors all risk insurance is designed to offer you the protection you need for the tools of your trade, the plant and equipment you may be using on site, and the materials required to get the job done.
