tee beam
a concrete beam resembling the letter t making more efficient use of a given amount of concrete by providing a large area on the compression side (at the top) and a relatively small stem into which the tension resisting rebar is added.

toothing

transfer slab
a slab with downstand beams constructed at the lower level of a multi rise building which acts as a slab to distribute the downward loads.
transformer
A device for converting one voltage of alternating current to another voltage. The ease with which power can be transformed (stepped up or down) in this way is the main reason for the supremacy of alternating current over direct current in situations where power is consumed far from the generator.

tremie
a sheet-metal hopper with a pipe leading out of the bottom of it - used for placing concrete under water.
truss
A frame generally of steel to carry a roof or bridge, built up entirely from members in tension and compression.
turfing
the covering of the earth surface with growing grass cut from a cultivated site.
turnkey project
an agreement with a client by which a contractor takes full responsibility for design and construction - this form of contract can reduce the delays of co-ordination between consultants – it may increase the risk of unsuitable construction.
