racking course
a layer of graded stone spread over stone pitching to fill cavities and form the road shape before surfacing it.
radiation
the emission or transfer of radiant energy as particles, electromagnetic waves, sound etc. particles and gamma rays emitted in nuclear decay.
raft foundation
a continuous slab of reinforced concrete, laid over the ground as a foundation for a structure - normally the foundation is larger than the area of the building it carries.

realignment
the alteration to the line of a road, railway, etc, which may affect only its vertical alignment but more usually alters its layout in horizontal alignment.
reglet
a flat narrow architectural moulding.
reinforced concrete
a concrete with reinforcement embedded in it to withstand tensile and shear stresses.
resin anchor
a fixing into a hole drilled in masonry or rock - its plastic capsule has separate compartments containing fast setting epoxy resin and its hardener - the bar to be fixed is pushed into the hole containing the capsule by an electric drill - the rotation of the bar breaks the capsule and mixes the epoxy with its hardener.
resoiling
levelling the ground after building or dredging is finished and replacing topsoil so as to make the ground fit for vegetation.

roofing bond
a guarantee by a bonding company to an owner that a roof installed by a specific contractor will perform as represented for the stated period, usually for 10,15 or 20 years, depending upon the specified quality and make-up of the roof.
