nail
a fastening device usually made from round or oval wire, having a point at one end and a head at the other - available in steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and bronze.
navvy
a labourer on a civils/building site.
neat cement
a mixture of cement and water only - normally referred to as grout.
needle beam
a beam passing through or under a structure to provide support during alterations or moving.
needle instrument
a surveying instrument, which includes a compass needle.
NJCC
National Joint Consultative Committee.
No Claims Bonus (NCB)
No Claims Bonus refers to a discount that is offered by insurance companies to people / companies that do not claim on their insurance policies. The reason for this discount is that the insurance companies see these people as a lower risk.
node
a panel point in a framed structure, particularly a truss, where two or members meet.
non-bearing wall
a wall, which supports no load other than its own weight.
non-cohesive soil
a frictional soil - sand, gravel etc.
notching
excavating a cutting in a series of horizontal steps advancing in sequence.
