macadam
A road surface made of compressed layers of small chippings bound together with tar or asphalt.
manhole
a shaft like access for workmen to enter a sewer or drain run.
mastic
an aromatic resin obtained from the mastic tree - in construction terms a compound, which remains elastic and pliable, rather than hardening with age.
mastic asphalt
A wearing course to a road or a waterproofing to a roof, consisting of liquid asphalt spread hot by hand floats. Some clean sand or chippings may be mixed in to add consistency.
member
a structural member is a wall, column, beam or tie or a combination of these - Any structure or frame consists of a number of members fixed together.
method statement
written description of contractor/trade contractor proposed manner of carrying out the works - a written statement of the task(s) as set out in the programme/schedule - a demonstration of the thought process in order to execute the works.

molding
a decoratively cut or shaped strip of material, usually wood, placed into a corner to form a finish trim, such as where a wall meets a ceiling.
mortar
A mix of sand, cement and water, which is used to bind together bricks and building stones.
mortice
a slot or recess, usually rectangular, cut into a piece of wood, stone etc, to receive a matching projection (tenon) of another piece, or a mortice lock.
mortice lock
a lock set into a mortice in a door so that the mechanism of the lock is enclosed by the door.
mould
a temporary wooden or steel structure to hold concrete - used in the manufacture of pre-cast units.
