Effluent

Liquid discharged as waste, as from an industrial plant or sewerage works.

Elastic limit

The greatest stress that can be applied to a material without causing permanent distortion.

Elasticity

The property of a body or substance that enables it to resume its original shape or size when a distorting force is removed.

Elbow

A sharp corner in a pipe, roadway etc.

Electrician

Electricity

Any phenomenon associated with stationary or moving electrons, ions or other charged particles.

Electromechanical

Relating to or concerning an electrically operated mechanical device.

Elevation

The external face of a building or structure.

Ell

An extension to a building, usually at right angles and located at one end.

Ell 2

A pipe fitting, pipe or tube with a sharp right angle bend.

Eluvium

A product of the erosion of rocks that has remained in its place of origin.

Employer

The employer is the party under the contract who agrees to pay for the works.

Between floors - another name for the mezzanine floor.

A synthetic, usually two part material that can set and harden under water or be used for bonding and repairing concrete in heavily trafficked areas - one disadvantage is that its fire resistance is low.

Epoxy concrete

Epoxide resin mixed with fine and sometimes also coarse aggregate can quickly repair roads or bridges, as a material it is more expensive than other concrete.

Equilateral

A geometric figure having all its sides of equal length.

Escutcheon

A plate or shield that surrounds a keyhole - door handle, light switch etc.

Excavation

Digging, breaking and removing rock or soil.

Excavator

A powered machine for digging, rock, earth, gravel, sand etc.

Exclusions

Exclusions within an insurance policy refer to assets / activities that are not covered by the insurance policy

Expansion joint

A gap in the steel and concrete to accommodate, at different times, both expansion and contraction.
