Falls from vehicles campaign and the construction industry

The 'Falls from Vehicles' campaign is being launched to cut down on the number of accidents resulting in injuries and death caused by falls from vehicles across all industries and trades which costs UK businesses in excess of £35 million in Expenses.

More than 80% of falls from vehicles in all types industries across the UK are from a low height.
Just over 2000 employees are seriously hurt and on average 5 of these result in death from all industries every year. This is a result of taking a fall from a vehicle. The UK’s construction industry is responsible for around 10% of these.

For all other industries, around three-quarters of those injured are courier/delivery drivers. However, in construction 70% of all falls from vehicle injuries occur to non-drivers i.e. those who are involved in unloading delivery vehicles
In the construction industry, accidents on a vehicle occur mostly when workers are, working on fixing the vehicle, loading /unloading the vehicle or getting on and off.

The majority of accidents within the construction industry occur on delivery vehicles! Mainly on HGV type vehicles.
