Ashwoods’ new hybrid van range has been shown to cut the cost of fuel by more than 15% – a figure that rises even higher in urban areas. And it’s not just van drivers’ pockets which are doing well out of this technology, By drastically reducing carbon emissions, these hybrids are a lifesaver for the environment too – a win-win, even if you’re not particularly green-minded!
Department for Transport grants
The hybrids are so cost-effective and environmentally-friendly that the Department for Transport have offered a grant to public sector buyers interested in Ashwoods hybrid vans. This grant lowers the cost of the slightly more pricey hybrid to that of a standardised diesel model. By making these vans initially more competitive (of course the long-term savings are head and shoulders above anything a diesel can provide), the DfT hope to put greener, more affordable automobiles onto the roads. This is particularly effective for public sector fleets. If you are interested you’ll need to act fast – grants are only available for the first 500 vans purchased.
What does hybrid technology actually do?
There seems to be lots of mixed messages and differing opinions out there regarding hybrid vehicles. In the past, the hybrid has been seen as a step in the right direction – but not a finished product. But nowadays, hybrid technology has come on leaps and bounds; they are now dependable, convenient and high performance.
When these hybrids brake, they charge themselves, ready for boosting your engine when it needs some acceleration. The electric motor is comparable to the Kinetic Recovery Systems (KERS) used in Formula One, turning the power lost through deceleration and turning it into a powerful charge that can be used when you need a little more juice. Plus, there’s no need for plugging in or charging – this engine works entirely under its own steam.
