Google launches Panda – what does it mean for you?

Elwood alerts many small businesses that they will be affected by Google’s new system, known as ‘Panda’.

Google launched the major algorithmic change yesterday, in an effort to provide higher quality search results.  The Google Panda update intends to lower the ranking of sites which have aggressive advertising and recycled content, also known as content farms, therefore provide better search results for Google users.

What this means is – Google will be removing bad content and allowing good content to rank higher.

Excellent! So as a legitimate small business you have nothing to worry about and everything to gain? Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as you have just thought!

We advise you to review your content as soon as possible.  These new changes could mean that even the most genuine websites could get caught out.

  • It is important that the content on every page of your website is of high quality.  Any poor quality content may need to be re-written to ensure it is well-written, useful and relevant for your visitors.
  • As you know, social media is revolutionising the way we look at things.  Google will be analysing the ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ your content gets.  This will provide validation that your content is good enough to be passed around between friends and networks.
  • Mix up your content.  Provide articles, blogs, press releases and guides as well as guest blogs.  Any link building must be relevant and beneficial.

Start evaluating your current content now.  Get a plan together to ensure that any future content is of superior quality.  Don’t hesitate to cut pages that are not performing well – it will affect your business!
