Manufacturing firms are being encouraged to access a service that will help them to develop new products, processes and unique technologies.
Business Link West Midlands has chosen the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS-WM) to head up a new programme, which will assist companies with market analysis, product design, and manufacturing solutions, and other forms of guidance.
MAS-WM believes that the initiative will support more than 200 manufacturing companies over the following three years.
It is hoped the additional support will increase regional sales, and help to establish over 30 knowledge-based collaborations with local universities and research organisations.
The service is being offered free of charge and currently has around £3.1 million set aside for match-funding grants to assist small businesses to drive projects effectively.
Roy Pulley, Head of the MAS innovation team, said that the support will have a significant impact on industry in the West Midlands.
Mr Pulley commented:
“The UK boasts a high level of creativity and an understanding of market needs, but that is only half the story. The process for new product development, the manufacturing readiness and commercialisation into the market is where support is required.
“The Innovation Advisory Service will provide guidance and support through that process, introduce specialist help in areas such as market analysis, design of product and the manufacturing solution, prototyping, IPR, product compliance and testing.”
