Business leaders feeling confident about year ahead

Confidence among small businesses appears to be growing, with almost three fifths of business owners positive about opportunities over the next three months, a survey from accountancy firm RSM Tenon has shown.
RSM Tenon’s latest ‘business barometer’ showed that, despite difficult trading conditions last year, many UK business owners are feeling optimistic about 2010. This was also reflected in the expansion plans of business owners, with 39% of the 300 owners interviewed stating they expect to grow their teams over the next 12 months.
RSM Tenon said that business leaders have played a crucial role in helping the UK to emerge from the recession. Chief Executive Andy Raynor commented:
“We believe that business leaders have made a key contribution to the fragile recovery we have witnessed to date.
“Active investment into businesses is a key indicator of confidence and our barometer shows planned spending has been steadily growing over the last nine months. This survey suggests a brighter than expected outlook.”
Last month, a study from Santander showed how many small business owners have imposed strict payment conditions on themselves in order to support their business during the recession. A massive 59% of business owners chose to freeze their own pay, while 28% even gave themselves a pay cut.
