Small businesses not sweet on Alan Sugar
Small business leaders have called for the resignation of Lord Alan Sugar, the Government’s Enterprise Tsar.
Sugar showed little concern for the businesses struggling to find loans and labelled them as “moaners” living in “Disney World”.
When speaking to a delegation of 300 small businesses in Manchester, Sugar claimed that 85% of small businesses that applied for bank loans did not deserve them.
He went on to say: "I can honestly say a lot of problems you hear from people who are moaning are from companies I wouldn't lend a penny to."
John Wright, the National Chairman of the Federation of Small Business stated:
“Despite being appointed by the Government to champion business in the UK, Lord Sugar seems to have no grasp of the hard work small businesses do and the role they play in employing six in 10 of the country's private sector workforce and contributing to more than half of UK GDP.”
“Lord Sugar appears to have let his TV personality from ‘The Apprentice' take over and the language he has used to describe this country's small business owners is hardly appropriate given his current role.”
