New, clean, nuclear

Nuclear Clean EnergyFossil fuels have had their day and governments across the globe are looking to low carbon alternatives to meet their growing energy needs.

Waste from nuclear power continues to be an issue of concern to taxpayers and statutory agencies. In a step designed to allay fears and promote investment, the UK government has set out statutory guidance for future plans for decommissioning of nuclear power and waste management.

These measures will allow new nuclear operators to come forward with clear plans for approval by the Secretary of State.

‘We are determined to encourage investment in new nuclear in the UK, and have taken a number of steps to do this. Publishing this guidance today takes us another step closer to enabling that investment to come to fruition,’ said Charles Hendry Energy Minister.

The growth of the nuclear industry in the UK is anticipated to create substantial employment for construction contractors, engineers and energy industry professionals.
