Rising fuel prices could "cripple" small businesses

Rising fuel prices will hit small firms hard and could cost thousands of jobs across the UK, comparison site Constructaquote.com has warned.
Last week, it was revealed that petrol prices across the country had hit a record average high of £1.20 a litre. Experts have since warned that the price of diesel could also be set to rise in line with crude oil increases.
With the finances of UK firms already strained, it is thought that rising cost of fuel could prove to be the final blow for many small business owners.
Lyndon Wood, CEO of Constructaquote.com, commented:
"Workers heavily reliant on their vehicles, such as couriers and tradesmen, have no other choice but to incur these additional, potentially crippling costs. This is likely to hinder their long-term growth prospects and could ultimately result in thousands of jobs lost."
"Whichever party is elected to Government, it needs to ensure that firms like these are properly supported - if not through lower fuel duty, then at least through the implementation of wider tax reductions and incentives."
