New campaign launched to reduce workplace injuries
A new health and safety campaign aimed at preventing accidents in the workplaces has been introduced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
The campaign, named ‘Shattered Lives’, is already underway and follows the release of some worrying health and safety statistics for last year. In addition to 61 people losing their lives, 14,000 workers suffered serious injury during 2008.
As part of the campaign, the HSE has developed ‘STEP’, an e-learning package designed to provide slips, trips and falls guidance through interactive learning. The HSE hope that the package will assist UK businesses in identifying areas where health and safety improvements could be made.
As well as employees benefiting from the adoption of health and safety regulations, it also has a large influence on Britain’s financial situation, with the HSE stating that last year’s accidents have cost British society in the region of £700 million.
It is a legal obligation that every UK employer has an employers’ liability insurance policy in place. It serves to protect businesses against any claims of negligence brought against them by injured employees, helping to safeguard their future.
