Employees’ spirits can easily fall if they are not felt valued, respected or appreciated. It is extremely important that employees’ are happy to go to, and be at work in order to be efficient.

1. Provide refreshments.
If you and your staff start work in the morning, it may be beneficial to offer coffee, tea, juice or maybe some fruit to help them wake up. There are a huge number of benefits to doing something as simple as this. The employee will be grateful for the gesture, their perception of the business will be positive and they are likely to be a great deal more productive throughout the day after a positive start.
2. Be their friend.
It’s hard to keep business and friendship separate, especially when you’re the superior but it is highly important that you get to know your staff. Asking them about their personal lives shows that you care. Don’t lock them in a room and make them tell you – bring it up in conversation. Listen to what they have to say and try to ask about it again another day. They will not only appreciate the interest they will appreciate the respect.
Remember their birthdays. This will encourage staff to feel like a valued member of the business and not just a number.
3. Keep training them.
Never stop providing training to your staff. You and your employees will need to keep up-to-date with developments and regulations, whatever your line of work. Some training may be required to ensure that work is carried out in a safe manner and on top. Offering training will show your staff that you are willing to invest in their career.
4. Reward them.
If you’re impressed with an employees’ work it is important that you show it. Let them know. One of the most popular ways of rewarding employees is a financial reward, such as a bonus in their pay.
Another way of rewarding your staff could be to treat them to lunch. If you chose this as an option it is probably an idea that you stay behind, maybe even man the phones – this way they will be able to relax and enjoy a lunch on the boss.
You could provide them with gifts. Try to make it personal and relevant to the individual employee. Don’t assume that everyone likes wine because this will make you look superficial and thoughtless.
It is important that your employees WANT to come to work in order to be productive. High staff morale will undoubtedly translate to a happy working environment; will consist of approachable and friendly management, fun activities and continuous training.
